Enbridge Line 5 Pipeline

Disruption of Enbridge Line 5 Pipeline through Michigan into Ontario

Ontario Pork, with other agri-food groups, wrote to Prime Minister Trudeau regarding the Governor of Michigan’s indication to shut down Line 5, which will greatly affect Canada’s energy security in Ontario and Quebec, and oil-producing provinces in the west.

Line 5 supports critical energy supply chains, which in turn supports other sectors of our economy, including agriculture and manufacturing. Line 5 supports thousands of jobs across Canada.

Line 5 delivers 53% of Ontario’s crude oil and is a critical source of supply for about two-thirds of the crude consumed in Quebec. The line feeds Canadian refineries, ensuring a safe, affordable and reliable supply of gasoline, propane, diesel, jet fuel, and other products. It also supports thousands of skilled trades jobs across Canada.

The Government of Canada must act now to work with American state and federal administrations to maintain Line 5 to ensure that families and businesses on both sides of the border continue to have a safe, affordable and reliable supply of energy.
