Dr. Harding has specialized in swine production medicine since 1991 and has consulted for large and small farms in Western Canada in the areas of health, production, nutrition and field research.

In 1997, he completed an MSc degree while investigating the effect of cytokines and acute phase reactants in high health swine during the post-introductory acclimation period.

In 1995, he co-discovered and characterized the post weaning multisystemic wasting syndrome (PMWS) caused by porcine circovirus type 2 (PCV2), and remains involved in PCV research. He is also investigating the effects of fetal programming on fetal immunology and post-natal health of swine. Through these research programs and his active clinical practice, he endeavours to improve the productivity, efficiency and health status of intensive swine operations.

Current OP-funded project: 17-011 Establishing value/utility of soluble CD163 as a biomarker for predicting PRRS-induced disease severity in swine herds
